A range of gentle exercise, fitness and strengthening classes are available at Your Community Health.
Physiotherapy group programs run at our wulempuri barring (East Reservoir) and wulempuri dhumba (Northcote) sites and are facilitated by physiotherapists and allied health assistants.
A physiotherapy assessment by a Your Community Health Physiotherapist is required prior to joining all our groups. Please call (03) 8470 1111 to arrange a physiotherapy assessment. A medical clearance from your doctor may also be required.
Group fees range between $5 and $8 per session for low and middle income clients. Group fees for Home Care Package and NDIS clients are outlined on our Fees page (please discuss with your Physiotherapist for more details).
Programs may be offered in languages other than English on request. If you would like to join a group and speak a language other than English, we can arrange an interpreter to come with you.
This is a six week program run by a physiotherapist and allied health assistant designed to help people reduce the risk of falls through exercise and education. Joining the program can improve your balance, joint mobility, muscle strength, bone density, general health and wellbeing, independence and confidence. Each week, an education session around the risk factors associated with falling will be delivered by a health professional – occupational therapist, podiatrist, physiotherapist, dietitian, counsellor and pharmacist. Strong and Balanced exercise only sessions are also available.
Who: Anyone with a history of falls, difficulty with balance and/or unsteady using walking aids When: Wednesdays 1pm-3pm. Six session course. Where: wulempuri barring East Reservoir Health Centre and wulempuri dhumba Northcote Health Centre.
GLA:D® is a six-week education and exercise program for people with hip or knee osteoarthritis symptoms. Participants who have completed the program report less pain and reduced use of painkillers. They also report high levels of satisfaction with the program and increased levels of physical activity 12 months after starting the program.
This program is unique in that the education and exercises provided can be applied to everyday activities. By strengthening and correcting daily movement patterns, participants will train their bodies to move properly, prevent symptom progression and reduce pain. This eight week, water-based exercise program guided by a Physiotherapist is designed to assist you to achieve your goals by managing pain and improving your function and quality of life. This program takes place in the heated pool, between 33-36 degrees Celsius, at Reservoir Leisure Centre.
