Your Community Health (YourCH) operates on the unceded lands of the Wurundjeri Woi-wurrung peoples. We acknowledge First Nations peoples as the Traditional Custodians of this land and the world’s longest living culture. Our local area, Darebin and surrounds, has long been a place of gathering for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. We acknowledge the enduring strength and resilience of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in preserving their culture, knowledge and deep connection to Country.
With profound respect for the sovereignty, culture and rights of First Nation peoples, we’re pleased to announce that we will walk with the First Peoples’ Assembly of Victoria (FPAV) on the journey to Treaty.
As a community healthcare provider dedicated to health and social equity, we are committed to partnering with First Nations peoples and organisations to support positive health outcomes. We recognise that health and social inequity is rooted in colonisation and its ongoing impacts.
We believe that Treaty is a crucial step toward First Nations peoples’ self-determination, justice and equity. We recognise that First Nations peoples are the experts on their own communities, cultures, lands, and health. We believe a Treaty will help remove the barriers that have marginalised First Nations peoples for generations, leading to improved health and wellbeing.
We commit to doing the meaningful and critical work to support Treaty. Our actions will include:
- Engaging our local community in the Treaty process by facilitating forums, sharing resources, and promoting events led by FPAV and other key organisations
- Strengthening the capacity and knowledge of our staff on Treaty
- Providing resources and spaces to FPAV to support their important work
- Advocating for Treaty with the State Government and Members of Parliament
- Publicly endorsing the Treaty through various communication channels
- Embedding support for the Treaty in staff Acknowledgements of Country.
We stand for Truth, Treaty, and Justice. We call for bipartisan support and ongoing commitment from the Victorian Government to advance a Treaty with First Nations peoples. It is an essential step towards a future where First Peoples’ voices are heard, rights are respected, and justice is realised for generations to come.
